Gunpla Builders: Beargguy High Grade Model Kit 1/144 Scale #004
Okay, we just don’t want to talk about this kit. We know that some of you LOVE this kit. And we can see the hate mail coming when we make fun of him, but we can’t help it. Granted, little Rina Noyama gave her ridiculous “teddy bear" Acguy some weapons: he’s got laser eyes in the series (the kit comes with “expressive” stickers for the eyes), a missile-filled backpack, and an extending arm, which does actually extend on the kit. But a bear? Really? There are some kick-butt girls in the Gundam universe; did Bandai need to have a real-life female modeler in Gunpla Builders make her kit a teddy bear mobile suit? For dignity sake, who would do this to an Acguy? Winning the award for making us nauseous: it’s the Beargguy High Grade 1/144. It is so horrible that we are going to actually have to build one and display it… maybe. Okay, it might be cute. But it is still very wrong.
Beargguy is fully poseable upon completion. Like other Bandai kits, Beargguy is completely snap-together with parts that are molded in color so no paint or glue is needed to complete it. The directions for the model do feature Japanese text, but they also have English lettered and numbered pictures that are very easy-to-follow.
About the series: Gunpla Builders is a cool little OVA created to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Gudnam. The story goes something like this: boy wants his first Gundam model, Gundam model is sold out, boy creates his own awesome mobile suit from a different kit, and boy takes his kit into virtual Gunpla battle. It’s a journey of Gundam-discovery for little Haru Irei, and it leads him into the awesome world of Gunpla and virtual battles… and now others can follow in his footsteps with this special anniversary tribute series.
